According to a 2018 global poll, India is ranked the world’s most dangerous country to be a woman because of high rates of sexual violence and forced slave labour.

Saudi Arabia

Under the male guardianship system, Saudi women need their father, brother, or husband’s permission to get married or divorced, or gain access to certain medical procedures. They are also required to dress modestly.

Democratic Republic of the Congo

Democratic Republic of the Congo is a dangerous place to be a woman, primarily because of wartime sexual violence against women.


Afghanistan has long been considered the worst place in the world to be a woman. Following the United States’ full military withdrawal by September 2021. 


Women are denied voting rights in Somalia, where sexual violence against women and girls is rampant.

Central African Republic

The Central African Republic holds the record for child marriage, with a marriage rate of 68% before the age of 18 and 29% before the age of 15.


Women experience more gender-based violence and are forced to wear the hijab. A female adulterer was recently sentenced to washing corpses for two years and 74 lashes.


Pakistan is one of the world’s worst places to be a woman because of the violence women face, including honour crimes, which remain largely unpunished despite a law passed in 2016 criminalizing them.
